Subject: Reminder-Exchange Core Return Procedures and Requirements

Dear Lycoming Customer:

As of April 2005, every replacement engine is shipped with a packet that contains (1) a blank Factory Return Materials Authorization Worksheet (Form 2500) and (2) a blank self-sticking RMA# label.

When the core is ready to ship, the customer (shipper) should contact the Distributor to

  1. Verify the core meets Lycoming’s acceptance criteria and has the valid data plate.
  2. Verify Form 2500 is complete, including the Distributor PO Number and Total Time since new or rebuilt (not time since overhaul.)
  3. Receive an active factory-assigned RMA Number.
    • NOTE: For quick, easy service, just fill out Form 2500 with all but the RMA Number and fax it to your Lycoming Distributor. We will fill in the RMA Number and fax it back.
  4. Ensure compliance with standard acceptable shipping procedures.

When preparing the core for shipment, the customer must

  1. Include the engine logbook, or a copy, with the removal page.
  2. Clearly and conspicuously display the factory-assigned RMA Number on the carton. (Use the self-sticking RMA# Label or mark the carton with a permanent marker.)
  3. Affix to the carton a copy of the completed Form 2500 or a Packing Slip with the required information.

This simple process facilitates the acceptance of cores and the issuing of core credit. Please contact our Lycoming Distributor if you have any questions or require assistance.

Sincerely,
Exchange Engine Core Service Representative
